Don't you hate it when they're right?
You could just throw yourself down at her feet , admit she is right, and beg for mercy.

Damn pumps that's the line I use with my wife. She's very supportive of my biking tho, but she won't ride.
Qdude if your still dating that means you got a chance to find another woman who rides:whistle:

So with the lights on, do you have 14 volts on the battery at 3000 rpm?
If not, you can test the charge system to determine if it's the regulator, or the alternator/rectifier.
On the regulator you should see three color tabs to indicate wire colors. If you jump the brown to green, you will feed full power to the field coil. This should produce maximum power to the rectifier then to the battery. The battery voltage should go to 15v as you rev the engine. ONLY DO THIS TEST BRIEFLY.
In order for this test to work, you need to verify the brown wire has 12 volts on it. Also the ground wire for the engine needs to be in tact and in good shape.
Measure the resistance from the green wire to the battery's negative terminal. It should be about 4 or 5 ohms.
If the test does not produce 15 volts, then the problem is the stator, field-coil, or rectifier.
As I said, this assumes the wiring is good, ...but the wiring is often the culprit.

Pumps, Kent and Patton,
Thank you for helping me put this into perspective :silly:
Loud, I will absolutely do the test tomorrow!
I already see all of the wires you mentioned in my dreams (nightmares?) Brief max test crossing reg wires, quality check for wires and resistance check.
Many. many thanks!
Tonight was dry and it rolled just fine with no hitches whatsoever. Could be a water thing, or intermitent wire grounding/opening or whathavya. I bought some "electrical grease" and am going to better waterproof the wire junctions with a well placed slather or two and use up another half roll of electrical tape.
Rainless in Seattle.
Cheers
