OK. I have a question about the dyna coils and ignition stuff.

I would like to replace my factory coils.
Can I use the dyna 3.0 coils only, or do I need to also have the dyna electronic ignition stuff that replaces points?

I also saw a kit from Z1enterprises.com for $384 that had coils, ignition and a microprocessor, etc.

And really how hard is it to install these things. I can swap carbs, change the headlight, take my tank off, change spark plugs and wires, but I am no mechanic. Is it a hard thing to do or a easy mechanic job?

you can run just the new coils if you want or you can stop messing with and gapping points and get the whole deal. the instructions included with the kit are very easy to follow. takes about an hour or so to get it all done. best money i ever spent on my 650b....steve

Do the coils and ignition. Well worth the money.Never had any trouble with mine.

You dont need to be a mechanic to accomplish your task... just follow the directions, take pictures and make notes of how stuff came appart if you need to... be paitent. One trick i always do when it comes to ingnition is, if it needs to come appart, do yourself a favor and put the #1 piston at TDC and there will be no doubt as to the timing when you put it back together.

I don't think you need the microprocessor for your machine. I think you need the coils & leads plus a Dyna-S system. I think your looking at a Dyna 2000 or some later model. You may save a bit of money. Check with Z1 Ent'.

The Dyna S and Dyna coils will be cheaper and easier to put in.

I just did the Dyna S install (Coils/wires/Dyna S pickup from Z1 Enterprises) on my Z1R and it was easy. It was definitely the biggest single improvement I've ever done to this bike. The plugs ran sooty and black before, the bike never ran smooth down low around town, now they run a perfect tan and it's smooth as can be... right off the bat without fooling around.

Kevin, Get the Dyna S, matching coils and Dyna plug wires from www.z1enterprises.com - The Dyna S price has dropped quite a bit and it is a great price now. The coils price is about the same...

Bring the stuff down and I will hook it up for you gratis... I can also do the coil repowering mod as I have parts on hand to do this as well... If you do it yourself, you will need a timing light. Things will be slowing down for me around the holidays and I will be glad to help you out.

KzJim, Go look in the Filebase and note there is a section on the right that says "popular downloads"... you can probably find it from there.
