I already have a few 1981-1984 KZ1000/1100 in my garage and will eventually need some valve shims.
I assume they all use 29mm diam. shims aren't they?
What thickness range is usually needed?

Does someone here a a kit or starter kit they don't use anymore and would like to sell?
Is so, please let me now.

The valves sink in the seats with mileage so thinner shims are needed when adjusting the valves, never thicker.  So whatever thickness your current shims are you need thinner.  Any shims you buy thicker than your current shims will never get used.

Reasoning for mentioning this is because buying a "shim kit" often results in purchasing a lot of sizes you will never use.  You would be well advised to take an inventory of your current shims and then purchasing shims thinner by some reasonable margin.  For example: if your engine has a bunch of 2.75 shims buy some from between 2.70 to 2.50.  There is no use in getting any 2.30's or 2.80's.

I know my wife's 1981 KZ550 uses the small shims under the bucket.  You may want to check to see if your bike uses shims over the bucket.  If so they will be the large ones.  Otherwise they will be the small ones under the bucket....a more complicated change out.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.
