Dmn! Always too late! I stripped and trashed 3 KZ1000 E1-E2 shaft drives in the last 2 years. No one bought my parts off of ebay, except the obvious parts.
I always threw the aluminum in the scrap barrel for 40-50 cents a pound. I kept the MarkII cases and crankshafts for the drag bikes. Kept brakes. Every freakin thing was different by a few millimeters on these shaft drives?? What were the Factory engineers thinking??? in the late 70's???
Oh well, sorry I did not save much.
Keep ebay in mind. email anyone selling shaft drive parts, and ask them for the part. You might get lucky.

I totally get what you are saying, but he could probably pick up a used one for a ZG1000 for a buck or two just to try. A brand new one is only $7.99 at Partzilla. A new one for a Vulcan Nomad is $13.20. It may be a dead end, or it might be the path to a cheap solution for him and other guys in his situation. Just offering a choice.

Oh, definitely; choices are good. If it doesn't work then he hasn't really lost anything. If the weather were better there would be swap meets to search.
The problem with Partzilla is that the cap (#16115-1003) is flagged as 'unavailable'. I have been able to find some great parts there but the commonly-used stuff is usually long gone. It's a great source of info anyway.
