No doubt the tool is better, but I haven't had trouble with generous assembly lube and fingers to fit rings back in the cylinders. My hands are not to big or fat to reach though. I would not use a home made contraption. R

Sorry for the late response to the question about my home-made plastic strip-backed hose clamp contraption.

1" wide x 1/16" thick LDPE soft plastic strips were used behind the hose clamps primarily to lock the rings in the FSM specified orientation to the pistons. With the clamps adjusted properly, the soft/slick plastic allows the cylinder sleeve edge to gently push the strip (and clamp) down the piston, releasing each ring within the cylinder as it passes in the exact-same position it was clamped...with assurance that no scratches were left behind on the piston.:)
Once the four clamped strips were properly placed on the pistons, the cylinder installation process was slickity-split fast...and precise.;)

Where did you get it? Do you have any you'd be willing to sell me? I am getting ready to put pistons in my cylinders and could really use some of this.

Z1 and KZ1000 are also different. I've been looking for a Z1 ring compressor for a few months with no success so far. I have one in my shop right now but it belongs to a buddy.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I have never seen one of these special ring compressor tools for the 900 or 1000 cc Kawasaki's. I assume the original "sandwiched" around all four pistons at once and was made of steel yes? If so, couldn't one of these tools be made of one piece of Delrin with the cylinder bores in the proper orientation and then split the Delrin into two pieces to clamp around the piston rings. I am just thinking outside the box here and may be someone has already tried this approach, but Delrin is pretty tough material and should last for quite a while. If anyone has one of these OEM tools and can post a couple of pictures of it I can pass it by a friend I have that's a machinist in a mold making facility. Delrin is really easy to fabricate things with.

Even If they are made for a 650 then a 781cc or a 810cc or a 831cc piston is not going to fit them either. Or a 1075cc piston with the 1,000cc model right ?
