The brass spigot on the #3 carb connects to a passageway directly to the venturi. It is a vacuum port used for connecting to a vacuum actuated petcock. The fact that you tried other carbs and had the same problem sort of through the troubleshooting off track.

There was more than one problem with this bike. The origional coils and wires were bad and it happened to effect no. 3 cylinder, the wire was broke at the coil for no 3 cylinder. Replaced the coils and did a valve job and replaced the guides and found weak valve springs for no 3 cylinder too. So you can see why I was at my wits end with this combination of problems. Why it all happened on that cylinder is beyond me. Thanks for the help.
