I'm not sure what wallory metal is; but I'm pretty sure I can't get it here!
they only started balancing tires a few years ago; engineering is limited to fixing things cheap.
also, that website you posted a link to said that welding is most common for weight addition, except for exotic or light cranks.
but maybe that means motorcycles?

Mark, check your Private Messages.
You can take off the balancer chain, but you must keep the balancer weights and everything else in place. This is because of the lubrication to the two middle crankshaft bearings.

thanks for the email address, I'll write to him directly.
I had read that about leaving the balancers in, but I'm planning to just block the balancer shaft oil feed holes. I think noeprene disks clamped under the [empty] balancer bearing blocks. or maybe nylon.
