You mean the tachometer cable? There is a tube coming out of the center of my cylinder head and it goes up to my tachometer. What is that? I couldn't find it in my repair manual.

Sometimes the seal inside the tach drive gets old and begins to weep oil. The *correct* way to do it is to remove the top of the engine and replace the seal. Some people (including me) have had reasonable success just removing the cable, putting a small o-ring inside, then re-attaching the cable to get a better seal...

Is the 'tube' a black flexible cable that screws into the bottom of your tach?

Yes it is a black flexible tube that screws into the tach. And the other end fits over a metal 'nipple'. The end attached to the engine case just slides on, no clamp or screw at all.
Is this just a overflow point or does the tach have to be supplied with oil. Or is the oil just to lube the cable? ??
Sorry for the rambling but I just don't get the purpose of the oil filled, loose, unsealed tube on the front of my engine thats just making a mess. Thanks!!!

the tach cable is normally screwed onto the engine just like your speedo cable is screwed into the front wheel speed gear. I don't know of any that are just pressed on.

Anyway, thats how it is. The cable is just pressed onto the engine case. I guess this is a big deal since its supposed to be attached via nuts and bolts.
To remove this cable, what precautions should I take. Can I simply slide it off and find a way to attach it better with a seal? Or is it more complicated?

Thanks, I saw that schematic and wasn't sure if that was the section i needed. So there's a whole set-up I may be lacking, bummer. I'll get back to you folks on this one.
