With a calibrated tachometer. In the olden days, mechanics routinely used a device called a tach / dwell meter when tuning up cars with points ignition. The one I have is getting close to 50 years old. I have no idea if anybody still sells one, but if you can buy, borrow or rent a decent one, you can use it to compare the bikes tachometer readings.I know I can use a phone to measure GPS speed. What other way could I measure RPM?

Well, they do indeed exist. A two second search netted a ton of them.

I've seen where folks have bikes that run at high rpm and they eventually find that the clutch was slipping. When that happens it is not unusual for the rpm to exceed normal speeds to keep the bike moving along at a given pace. Ed
What makes you say that?Maybe your bike's clutch is slipping. Ed

From what I've read I'd try a 16 tooth front. Read it lowers things by 400 R's at 60. Would be cheap and you could still go with a 42 rear if you needed too. Would give you a idea what it might do for around town power and fun before you spent too much also.

Is it my fault because I like to adjust my clutch engagement closer to the grip than not?
