KZ750 Engine in pieces, suggested mods to do "while I'm in there" was created by Hemmek
Hey friends, I FINALY have graduated, and are now a working sailor. (in Engineering ofc)
That means i have the time and the money to finaly put Yellow back together (Yellow is the 750)
The engine is apart already, had the project comming to an halt when i ran out of money and had to move.
So i'm considering to go the 810 route as well.
But before i put her together, is there any good mods to do while I'm in there?
Best Regards H

Maybe the ZR750 starter clutch & oil pump >> there's a ZR7 engine swap topic here on KZR somewhere & I think it has info about that stuff being a direct swap to the 650/750. Also, maybe the ZR550 6-spd transmission.
Here are some rebuild topics. you may have seen one or two of them.
A couple at the end are for the 650. just thrown in there for the heck of it. might be something useful buried. ???

The starter clutch rebuild is a must-do as it is a PITA when the engine is back in the frame and if it has never been done it's probably only a matter of time. Replace everything associated with it with OEM parts.
Amazon had a sale on the 810 kits a few months back so I have one on the shelf when I get around to it. You might as well if you are replacing pistons anyway.
Something to consider too is the 6 sp swap. Another thing I need to get around to.

Replacing clutch hub and secondary shaft sprocket rubber bumpers should be in the "must do" list. Replacing clutch springs too.

Chain tensioner swap, there are some nice alternatives. Subscribing. Bone stock except coils.

So now i have had time to do some research,
My wishlist as follows.
ZR750 parts
Oilpan
Oil- cooler
Oil pump + Second shaft
ZR7 Starter clutch.
Second shaft sprocket rubbers
ZR550 Parts
Gearbox
GPZ- parts
Camshafts from 83-85
Stock parts.
Bearings,
Aftermarket parts.
Clutch springs (still to source, read something about orient express carrying some good ones, yet to find these)
Rubbers for the clutch hub (Still no source)
Chain tensioner, (Still no source)
810 kit
Machinist bill
Bore out the cylinders
Shave the clutch basket.
So far I'm having trouble finding the parts online (live in Sweden where enviromentalists have killed off all the scrapyards as far as i know)
Saw a conversion to the ZR550 swing as well, fucking loved the look of that so trying to source one of those but thats for another season.
Focusing on the engine for now
Anything else I might do when im in there and any idea where i can source the parts i need for a reasonable price
And thanks again
Best Regards H

Daftrusty has a great thread about installing a 6 speed trans in a 750 that's worth reading though.
Regarding clutch hub rubbers, there is a guy that sells through the 750 turbo forum. As far as I know he's the only source these days.

We do have an number of good bike breakers her in Sweden.
Spinning wheels in Kolsva.
Bike in Trollhättan.
and I know of one in Norrköping, Partille and Uppsala.
It is always a good idea to try to find as many parts as possible from the same source as it gives you a better chanse to work on the price.
If you run out of luck here in Sweden there are lots of breakers in Germany, Belgium, France, Italy and the UK. You will find man of them on Ebay.

So finaly sourced some parts, Thanks to Scubaanders i found a breaker
Now i wonder what model of Zx750 would be the ideal candidate?
I got these alternatives.
ZX7R -97
ZXR 750 J 91-94
ZXR750 -89
Does it matter?
Gonna source these parts from the engine.
Oilpan
Oil- cooler
Oil pump + Second shaft
Starter clutch.

You need parts from the aircooled Z/GPZ or ZR models which are all design based on the unit which was first introduced as the Z650.

The ZXR/ZX7R bikes listed above are water cooled and share no significant engine parts with your air cooled Z750.So finaly sourced some parts, Thanks to Scubaanders i found a breaker
