So I am in the middle of restoring a 1982 KZ750E3 (as identified by VIN and Tag) and things are going well. Just trying to get a parts order together and needed some exhaust gaskets. Only issue is the exhaust on it does not really match any parts diagrams for the 82 KZ750. Checked some other years and models and closest I can get is a GPZ.

The exhaust fit perfectly so no issue, but does anyone know if this was a stock exhaust on the 82 KZ750E3. The difference I see in the parts diagram is the connection of the muffler to the pipe. This one has a slip fit collar with a shim gasket (factory looking and not made by someone), clamp, and the matting cone shaped flare on the pipe so it is definitely all stock....but for what year. The parts diagram shows it as a welded piece to the collector. Maybe just my interpretation of the drawing.

Also included a picture of the progress of the build. So far, so good.

Agree the parts diagrams do appear to show that type of exhaust for the GPZ and the Spectre - KZ750-N1 as well.

It’s a mystery but fits fine and is a stock system. It was close to the R but does not have a solid crossover. It is definitely a stock Kawi.

Will need some work to recondition it but let’s see what happens.

Below is a picture of the exhaust system for the 1981 / 1982 KZ750-E2 / E3. This picture is from the Kawasaki web site (see www.kawasaki.com/Parts/PartsDiagram/134884/1982/KZ750-E3). To me it looks like the exhaust system you show in your picture, but maybe I'm not seeing something. What welded piece are you referring to? Ed

It is the joint between the muffler and collector looks to be one piece on the drawing with no clamp. On mine that is a separate connection with a shim on the press fit connection and a muffler clamp. Don’t see that in the parts drawings. May actually be fine and original but the drawing is just throwing me off.

Martin_CSR might know what it is. He has a 750E exhaust on his CSR 650, I think.

I see; very interesting. So the normal exhaust is welded there (see image below) and yours is clamped. I also wonder why .Ed

I have a 81 KZ650 and an 81 KZ750. Both stock exhaust (that came on bike atleast) and both have all 4 clamped onto the collector part.

That's not a 750E muffler system. Since it's chrome, my guess is the 1983 KZ750-F1 Ltd Shaft. The shaft drive models had clamped-on mufflers >> I guess for final drive maintenance or maybe so you can remove the rear wheel or something.

The mufflers should have some embossed printing on them. Please post a photo of the lettering.

Will do....

Does look like the LTD Shaft version but from the diagrams those have an actual gasket on the muffler. This one is a slip on with a cone and shim. Maybe it is supposed to be a gasket??? Lets see what the stamping reveals.

All the marks I could find. Also a pic of the slip fit and shim.

Thinking header is stock 750E and mufflers added on later??
