Read the warning about using a stand-alone battery for electrolysis:

www.fordgarage.com/pages/electrolyticderusting.htm

Here's some pics of the GPZ tank. I use folded-over iron rebar wire for the anode and a manual battery charger.

I've resurrected lots of bikes that have sat for awhile. Old tanks will have lots off debris in them depending on how they were stored. Definitely use a filter and check it often until you get a chance to clean the tank. I usually use an acid solution and flush it well. There are lots of new more environmentally friendly options for removing rust now. Haven't tried electrolysis but it sounds like it should work for rust.

After looking for a old school battery charger I couldn’t find one.I hooked my battery charger to my deep cell battery and hooked it up to the tank.It worked well what I didn’t know is about flash rush.I did some research and luckily found out about a tank sealer red kote.Im wait on the sealer so after it comes in I’ll flush tank and apply it.hopefully it works.

When I used the battery I made sure it wasn’t heating up.

Don't use Redkote. I had an H1 tank done professionally with Redkote and after a few years it had dissolved and was gumming up the petcock and carbs. Getting the rest of it out was a PITA.
I only use two-part sealers now like those from Caswell.
