I've never owned a bike that new so I didn't know.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Interesting question, Steve. My guess would be something like a windage tray / barrier from all of the spinning parts? Another questioon might be why the Z1 1015 filters have a metal cage? Possibly the same reason.

I had to chuckle at this comment.. It reminded me of when I tell people that I don't own anything that worked or ran when I got it, my bike, my truck, my TV's , my computers.. lol

Had an oil pressure problem on my J engine. One day, hot, fired it up and the oil light stayed on. It was the first time I used a K&N oil filter. Replaced the pump and back to an OEM filter to be safe, and never had the problem again.
Seen the problem more than once on car engines due to overly restrictive aftermarket filters. Spoke to a long time Kawi dealer tech and he's seen the same thing on bikes.

I generally use K&N filters on my Z1's. Alternatively I'll use Kawasaki filters.
I recently rebuilt a Z1 engine. After running it for about 10 minutes I dropped the oil pan to check the kickshaft. The photo below is was the oil strainer caught in only 10 minutes of run time.

I have seen a few brands of aftermarket oil filters that had MAJOR problems over the years. Emgo are just pure trash. Back in the '80's if your Suzuki GS had a Emgo oil filter in the bike and it suffered a warranty problem related to lack of lubrication. U.S. Suzuki would not cover it under warranty. Back in the late '80's or early '90's you could not race in AMA or WERA if your bike had any type of a spin on Fram oil filter. All the threads were messed up from the factory. I think that is when Fram switched oil filter production to the Philippines!!!! I have seen many brands of aftermarket oil filters come apart in KZ motors over the years!!!!
BIG DIFFERENCE between most aftermarket oil filtees and a REAL O.E.M. Kawasaki oil filter.
I would not, and NEVER have used anything but a REAL O.E.M. Kawasaki oil filter in my KZ!!!!!! End of question.
