I am going to buy some seymour hot spot paint for my kz750 spectre engine cases. It says for my to bake them at 400 for 2 hours.

My question is, do I need to remove the studs from the top of the case b4 I cook the paint on? Someone told me It might warp the studs. Anyway, Thanks.

400F won't "warp the studs." Personally I'd remove them regardless but not due to heat distortion.

BTW, that Hot Spot paint is intended for headers and exhaust manifolds or similar. It's not designed as an engine paint. I'm curious how it works out for you so please chime with the results.

Well what paint would you suggest? I heard from a guy that I could use it. Do you think it will work?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Personally I like the PJ1 line of engine paints. After baking, it is pretty tough and does a good job of replicating the factory paint on my GPz.

What temp/time did you bake the PJ1 for?( I preheated my cans in warm water before spraying and of course the labels vanished! Doh!!
I emailed the company but got no reply. I can confirm that unbaked PJ1 will wash off as soon as your carbs leak.)

PJ1 Fast Black here on a '73 Z1 motor.

We just ran it to bake. No problems in 270 miles so far.

HINT! start 5 minutes after your wife or girl leave for work! Have a couple of box fans! Make sure your oven exhaust fan is working.
Spray and enjoy, couple hours will clear the smell!
Then make it romantic, light one of those 20 candles in the cupboard (LOL)

Idk about PJ1. I’ve never heard of it.

Any more ideas on paint? Personally I want a paint that is going to be super durable and chip resistant. Ik that’s not possible, but I would like to get the closest to it.

Thanks!

What he said. i have restored several 73 z1's and used PJ1 fast black. I've never baked engine cases and never had any problems with the paint. Paint it run it don;t worry about it !!
