I should also mention I swapped the sensor with my 82 GPz750 sensor and have the same symptom. Both operate properly and identically on the bench.

More than likely, over the years, sludge from condensation in the oil pan will build up inside that oil level sensor, and cause it to stick/fail. I agree with above, it's nice to have, but I by-passed mine,, and always check oil level. Might sound silly to some, but if you ride the same bike long enough, you can hear the engine is a little noisier when the oil level is low (hot) at idle, and when the oil is getting thin from age. No, not turning this into another oil thread!

I believe there is only resistance check for this part for testing? I have never tested one before.

I had it out, took it apart, bench tested it for resistance, watched it change state. Then swapped it with a different oil low sensor from another GPz, identical bench test, installed the second one, same result. A head scratcher.
