Hi I have a 2005 kz 1000p. It is for the most part nice origional condition. It has always had a funky idle, ocasionaly popping out the pipes at different times. Never a constant miss or any thing just random.
I have been all over the carbs, bs 34s. I have them on other bikes I have so nothing new to me.
After reading here I decided to add block off plates on the air injection system and put new 2.2 ohm dyna coils on. I also ordered the plug wires from the same supplier.
The wires came with cheap looking car style ends that require you to put the aluminum nut thingy back on the plug. I decided cut them off and put the nice Bakelite stock ends on. Now I'm thinking maybe the stock ends are resistor and I should have left the wires alone. Did I screw the pooch?

Solid wire core plug wires?

Should not use resistor plug wires with resistor plug caps.

Just replaced my black solid copper core black wires with red ones shown sitting on the cushion in the photo foreground...
I attach the factory crimped end with rubber boot to the coil terminal, and screw the resistor (or non-resistor) caps on the cut-end depending on what spark plugs are being used. That is, resistor caps for non-resistor plugs, and non-resistor caps for resistor plugs.

I still have the black ones btw. :whistle:

Wow thanks for the fast replys!
I guess my question is, are the stock caps resistor?
I never thought to check with a timing light. Just replaced coils because the stockers have been cooking under the tank for 64,000 miles
If I put non-resistor plugs in it would that make it right or should I crimp the rubber ends back on it?

I have set the valves,
Compression is 150,160,150,170
Stock jets in the carbs--at sea level, generaly hot and dry here unless it's cold and wet. Went up one size on pilots but it was way rich. Float level are at spec. Stock air cleaner(foam)
And kerker header with street baffle. Starts great and hauls ass and sounds wonderful on the pipe. Just idle is all floopy floppy

Carbs synced and how's the spark advance. I'll look at the timing light to see if it's a electrical miss but if misfiring due to carb malfunction that could be misleading.

Oh sorry Steve
I thought I posted a response, carbs are synced. Being it's a 2005 with electronic ignition I didn't think it had a mechanical advance. I took the cover off and everything is shiny and new looking but the shaft was a little gummy feeling so I sprayed it with wd40. It's a little free er now .
I'll take it for a ride tomorrow and see how it feels. Thanks for the help!

WD ios only a temp. fix. I use grease and oil it once in a while.
