On the newer motors, the electronic ignition takes the place of the points. Because there may be a tiny difference between the mounting plate of the points versus the mounting plate of the electronic ignition pickups, the timing might be slightly altered. If that problem exists, you can correct it by elongating the mounting holes. This allows you to move the timing plate a little bit. Hopefully that is enough to get the ignition timed properly.

But none of that is related to the starter.
