You need to check the valves if you have shims or not to rule it out. If OK it's ignition.

It did bog down with increased throttle, around 3.5rpm, but now it won't start. I'm looking into the valves, not quite sure how to check them though.

If you have had the bike for a while then its a good thing your doing the valves even if its not the problem. Its super easy to adjust the valves on your bike, but also really easy for them to get misadjusted during normal use. I usually check mine at the beginning of every riding season.

OK, back from vacation.
I adjusted the valves, right side seemed fine, left side was pretty tight, but they're all in spec now.
I attempted to start the bike, but realized it had been leaking a bit a fuel, so I will have to put some in the tank.
However I have now developed a new problem I'm assuming with the starter. It sounds like it will catch a few times, but then something disengages and it just whirs. Video attached. I'm guessing the starter is now my problem?
Still not sure how to pronounce "vaaalvess"
