I recently purchased a 79 KZ400 B and planning on making it a cafe racer project. I would like to know what type of slip on exhaust are you folks out there running? I like the look of the shorty megaphone exhaust, what is the diameter fit for our pipes to connect to a slip on? And please share your pics of your exhaust

I have a 2 cylinder, so I guess it's a 2 into 2. One exhaust on each side.
What pipes are you running?

Can anyone else confirm that my pipes are a 1.5 like the other member stated?
Around where do the slip on connect? Can't seem to find the connection

These are MAC slip-ons on stock headers. I tried some bullet style but they hung too low. It had some atrocious side pipes when I first got it.

I got a pair of new Mac slipons a couple of years ago off Ebay from a company in Columbus, OH that was clearing them out for a good price. They were said to be for a 440 but they fit my 76 KZ400 well enough. They have a little bit of rise up and outward.

Helix Racing has several universal mufflers w removable baffles. I've seen them listed at various places,
such as JC Whiteney, J&P Cycles, etc. I think Emgo still makes a couple of different styles. Both brands are listed as
universal fit or sometimes Dunstall mufflers.

Here's a photo of Verner-650's bike, but I don't recall exactly which mufflers he installed.

They sounded good but hung too low. I could scrape them in turns. The MACs I replaced them with have a slight up-turn at the header. Much, much better.

BMW Twin replica mufflers appear to be upswept --- sold in pairs on eebbaayy. JC Whitney only lists the LH muffler.

Helix exhaust look just like the megaphones, do they have the shorty ones? How do they sound?
