If fresh clean gasoline is filling the carb bowls as evidenced by the clear-tube test, and the pilot circuit is otherwise perfectly clean, would consider possibility of a clogged orifice where the pilot circuit mixture enters the main carb bore (see #6 in the following illustration.

Would also assure that the carbs are fitted correctly into the carb holders, and that the clamps are snug.

Good Fortune! :)

I gotta ask this, when you unscrew the drain screws, does gas run out? Also check the strainer screen in the bottom of the pet cock.

Took a ride this morning for beer and cigs. 43 F at 9:00, damn cold ride. Nothing for some of you guys I'm sure. 52 F at 2:00, will be back in the 60's next week. Had snow on the mountain behind me but was gone by noon. Still some snow on the mountains and it isn't over yet.
Here's some pics of my place, it's in the background in one pic.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The bike originally wouldn't start. I replaced the spark plugs and the bike started. I didn't notice any smoke from the pipe. After riding the bike for 5 or 6 miles, I pulled the plugs and they were black. I someone look at the plugs and was told that they are oil fouled. I was told that this could be caused by the rings being bad. Could the fouling of the plugs also be caused by the valve stem or the valve stem seal ? I just trying to check as much as I can myself.

I also just took the carbs off and cleaned them. I also drained the gas out of the tank. I checked the petcock filter and it was good. Put fresh gas in the tank but haven't started the bike yet to see how it acts. Hopefully I'll be able to get to that in the next few days.

Kevin, can you please explain what you did to "clean" the carbs? BTW, it's not as easy as washing your hair...

OK, thanks man. Just checking... looks good.

Please understand why I asked,.. so many rinse them in the kitchen sink and think this is enuf! Then, after I asked, I see you've been here for a while... so, my humble apologies if yourself, or anyone, took this question as a question of your abilities.

Good luck gettin' the ol'lady back on the road!
Cheers Kevin...

It is rare to have to completely dismantle the carbs and soak them. Not only is this a waste of time, if rubber parts are soaked, they'll be ruined. Carb spray is all that's needed most of the time, just don't hit the rubber or plastic parts. It ran for 8 or 10 miles with new plugs but fouled the plugs. Unless the plugs smell like gas, it's oil fouled. Time to pull the head and replace the seals and/or rings. If you decide to do this, report back with pics and we all can give informed advice.

Or you could just give up completely and sell the bike or part it out on EBay or light it on fire.

When I took the carbs off, I cleaned them using the diagram/instructions supplied by Patton before. Now that the holidays are over, I'll have time to pull the head off and see what the condition of the seals are in or just order news seals from Z1 and replace them.
