Broken Fins???

Does anyone repair broken cylinder head fins on the forum? My 77' KZ1000A had the top cylinder head fins on the left side of the engine on the inside corners near the 2 cylinder head nuts broken off? And also the 3rd fin that circles the inside cylinder bolt to the side of the spark plug. Bike's been sitting for a lot of years, so who knows what happened? Maybe it would be better to buy a used cylinder head than repair this one? Anyone have one if I elect to go with this option?

Unless I'm misunderstanding your description of the damage, it sounds like you will only be losing some cooling effect provided by the missing fin pieces. I'd ride it like it is, the amount of fins had to include a safety factor back when it was designed.. Just don't get in any long traffic jams :ohmy:

To answer the question, pit stop performance in Florida fixes them.

Z-torch is really good at fixing them also,but unless its had some high end port work done to it Id be willing to bet it would still be cheaper just to buy a good used head and drop it on there.

I'd rather ride it, than work on it...if it's strictly a cosmetic issue unless you're building a show bike :huh:

Maybe I'm a bit superstitious. I believe nature abhors perfection. Trying to achieve it will only cause some other damage to occur. Maybe worse damage. Leaving your bike in a naturally degraded state will cause entropy to seek out other victims.

Sure my superstition is a bit nutty, but who spends more time riding and who spends more time fixing cosmetics? I say if it runs reasonably well when ride it.

The uglier it looks, the better the security that no one will steal it.
