Just replaced the seal on my 82 KZ550 couple days ago. I think it took a 4mm Allen wrench for the bolt. Then the whole piece comes out. Pull the gear out. My seal had been almost baked in and was a pain to remove. Used a dental pick and finally got it out. Slide the new one in. Replace the o ring on the other side. Put the gear back in. Slide the assembly back in. Got to have it turned right also for the lock plates to line up.

I never have any trouble  When I take 1 out I throw it in the scrap bin and replace it with a SHCS
It's what I use in my work and for the small cost vs the upgrade, I don't take the chance and SHCS's look a whole lot nicer.... I know that's a personal thing  Stock type screws belong on bicycles..... :silly:
