15-40 Rotella. Just my opinion. Bike's still running and it shouldn't be. Need to push start it when it's hot. But that's not oil.

The zinc is not the only thing missing, I've been using GTX in my second bike (FJ1200) and I use Castrol semi -synthetic POWER1 in the Z1r. After they bought out the GTX modern my new megacycle cam shafts that were in the FJ1200 were stuffed after only 15,000kms. After a lot of research and the usual blame games, we worked out that the culprit was the oil. They looked like 60,000 racing kilometer cams with valve bounce (valve springs were quality springs before you ask)
I assume the heat from an air cooled motor has a lot to do with this. The older GTX 2 and 3 were still ok to use (I believe, please check).
My Z1R has now covered hard 95,000kms on current cams and they look like new.

First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

Lot of new camshafts ruined with the low ZDDP oils. You can buy ZDDP and add it if it's not in the oil.

Gibbs Racing oil is what I use in the big hp bikes, $10-$20 a quart.
In the 750 twins I use Shell Rotella T.

Gibbs sells oil that has been formulated per their specifics specs, I'll have to look at a bottle and see if it meets any standards, but I don't think it does.

It's now called Driven Racing Oil, or something like that, and Jegs had it on sale recently.

A lot of the new oils now advertise the zinc contact specially for motorcycles, the semi-synthetic Castrol Power1 is one and many others like Penrite, Nulon etc. I don't use full synthetic because some time ago I was led to believe that at high revs the crank rollers don't spin properly, they apparently need some "friction (oil)" to spin?? (can't verify, only a theory). At the same time I never saw one of these crank die either.

Didn't I just start this a few weeks ago? Rotella-T 15w40 (white Jug) and a bottle of Rislone ZDDP additive and a K&N filter.

You can use aluminum foil and water to clean up chrome real nicely. It removes minor rust as well. It wont scratch the chrome either. You just dip the aluminum foil in water and keep it wet and start rubbing. Give it a try. Its alot cheaper and works just as well.

They stop spinning at really high rpms due to centrifical forces, nothing to do with oil you run.

For all intents and purposes, all 10W40 and thicker is non energy conserving and should be OK to use, all 10W30 and lower is energy conserving and will ruin a wet clutch, however this is all on paper. Moly is the main ingredient that renders 10W30 no good for a wet clutch, but is this the only criteria used to define "energy conserving"? "Energy conserving". What does that mean? Saves gas. 10W40 will not save gas in these idiots definition even if it had 25x the moly of a 10w30. So it's entirely possible and most likely true even 10w40, 20w50 ect still are no good for a wet clutch despite the fact they are not labled as energy conserving. I've seen analysis of 15W40 diesel oil and it is OK to use, otherwise stay with MA rated motorcycle spec oil 10w40.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
