How do i measure valve shims?

Grinding the valve end MUST be done on a machine as shown above to keep the end square. Don't try it by hand.

Of course the shims are marked with the thickness, but sometimes the marks are worn off. Install the shims mark down so cams don't wear off the size. 2mm is the smallest shim available, so if you remove the shim and it's a 200, this happens from prior fricked up valve job by incompetent. Hopefully this is not the case.

yeeeeaaa im not gonna grind the end off i dont think. This isn't a briggs and stratton ill have to pull the shims and check them. ill let you know what i get

What kind of micrometers should i get? Metric or Standard?

Metric would be the easiest, but the shims may have the thickness etched into them. but need them if they dont.

Get a digital one so you can do both.
