I am not a 4 cyl expert, but I have seen other threads where the Clymer's manual was shown to be wrong. There is a download somewhere here for the Kawi manual.

What do you mean skip timing? Did it run good before the timing chain adjustment? What did you do to get he bike "up and running?"

Sounds like timing is off because of the sound when it turns over. I did head work and removed tensioner and installed after work was finished

Did you remove the cams for this head work? If so then I would say double check your cam timing.

Did you reinstall the valve cover before installing tensioner? B)

If its anything like the bigger j-series motors the other guide/tensioner is built into the valve cover and needs to be installed first B)

Wireman is correct, there is a chain guide/ slipper block on the inside of the valve cover. Make sure its in place. If you pull the valve cover to check timing again, after following the book for lining up marks and pin counting. The Camshafts should have the lobes, and the notches lined up along the Valve cover gasket surface when viewed from the right hand side/ #4 like this picture. (From member 3cav84a).
