...am I reading this right? You said filters? Are they all leaking at once? If so, it would be impossible for exhaust to leak out of all four at once. I'm not even sure if it's possible to leak exhaust out of one. Even when the engine runs backwards, it blows fuel vapor out the filters, not exhaust. My Sportster does it all the time when it's extremely hot out. Anything over 95˚and I'll get a bit of backwards run for a couple of turns after shut down.

...I'm with 893cv on this one. Before I got half way through your post, I was thinking fuel. First thing I would do, is check your float levels, make sure they're not too high. Then balance and adjust the carbs. Make sure you didn't miss anything when you were in there. Is there any fuel leaking from the overflow tubes? Just a thought.

I'm surprised that no one has recommended this yet given your compression test results. You should try to adjust your valve clearances and then redo your compression test. Tight valves will cause lower compression. I wouldn't be too concerned about the vapor coming out through the pods.

I probably shouldn't have said "filters" plural. It comes out of either one or the other. My Dad had mentioned that cars, and I'm sure some motorcycles, have evap canisters that reuse unburnt vuel vapors, so I'm thinking that's what I'm seeing out of the pod filters - it just looks like exhaust.

...have you ever pulled the filters and watched what happens after shutdown?

...fuel vapors are easily identifiable.
