exhaust pressure was created by at20
Hi there

I have a 1976 kz400 and i noticed that I'm not having equal exhaust pressure and I'm concerned. The right side blows strong hot air out the pipe but the left side blows soft cold air. This doing homework about different things but I don't think that's right and i really don't know where to start.

Also I noticed when Its running I can try to adjust the air mixture screw on the right carb and it effects the way the bike runs but when I do the same with the carb on the left I don't get any results. I can screw it all the way in and out and nothing happens with the way the bike runs. Is it from no spark on the left side or a compression issue ???????????? Does any one have any ideas or thoughts on these issues.

Any and all help is gladly appreciated

Thanks

But if I didn't have compressionon that side I wouldn't be getting pressure at all right. or is that just cuz the engine is running I tried checking the values before and it was fine from what I can remember

Check your low speed jet in the carb on the side that's cool. I had a 750 four that was the same. It had a piece of clear silica blocking the jet. You could see light through it but it was blocked. Try using a very fine wire or welding tip cleaner to clear it . You should remove the jet if you can when you do this without damaging the jet or carb., pushing the wire from the other side of the jet(think backflush)to clean the jet.

Best of Luck!

All you need is your carbs synchronized .
Its a 5 minute job for someone who knows what they are doing.
And has the tools.

Ok guys I checked for spark and I have that's I can check that off the list. My next step is trying to check for compression but I don't have a tester yet so a friend told my to do the water test to my exhaust pipes coming from the cylinder and the right cylinder stems off instantly and the left one (which Is the one In question ) didn't do anything. the water just ran off even in the too of the head its barley warm to the touch.

What should be the next tip besides compression testing or should I even still do that since I know something is wrong. What else could it be

The comp check is still worthwhile. That would definitely be my honest, what's next answer. If you want to skip it for now, you could clean the carbs if you never have, and then sync them, if they're too out of sync it can cause misfires, especially at idle.

Compression testers aren't too pricey. I think I paid $25 for mine at an autozone, and most auto stores will rent them as well, so you pay for it, use it, bring it back for a full refund. Just make sure that if you get one from a car place, it has the appropraite adapter size for the bike's spark plugs.

If you have an AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts store in your area you can use their free tool loaner program to borrow a compression tester. Ed

I cleaned the carbs before but the compression test I never done. that was my idea with the tool was just use one from the store. I also thought that maybe they just need to be put in sync. But I never done that before. I seen a video on bench sync once but I don't think I did it right
