What is the difference between a kz1 900 and a kz 900?

Kinda new to the old street bike thing, just tryin to get some info on it all. I am sure you ppl will be like man he asks alot of questions. :unsure:

The bike i have(but have yet to get home)is a 79btw, so is it a kz1? or a plain kz?:unsure:

Well, i read that link and am still not sure what bike i have.haha. Never claimed to be the startest guy around, but yeah think i will spend the evening reading all the old archives. Might just pick some info up there, but thanks for the link:S

well a z1 is generally a 72-75 900,starting in 76 they were called kz for the most part on the american versions anyway.

Yea, the designation was changed in 1976. 1973-1975 900 was called the Z1, the 1976 was called the KZ900. Some KZ900s were also made as 1977 model year. That was the end of the Z1/KZ900. 1977 was the release of the KZ1000. So if you have a 1979 900 it is neither a Z1 or a KZ900 because 1979 there was no 900 models from Kawasaki.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

post your frame number and engine number.if its a 79 somebody might of dropped a 900 motor in a 1000 frame.on the bottem left side of cylinder when viewed from front on top of cases does it say 903 or 1015?

903 and that manufacture tag the last two digits were 79
