The owner's manual will have the procedure & it depends upon the bike. Some are clockwise first. Others, such as my 81 650 are counterclockwise first.

may need to readjust the clutch, I had it right then I read this, then adjusted it again and it's all good. No more slippage at high rpm's. That along with recharging the k&n seems to have done the motor good.(used a brush to get the oil inside the filter since the exposed side is inside the round filter). That filter really smelled like gas.

Crankcase oil may be fuel-contaminated, perhaps due to an imperfect float valve and/or float mechanism.
