Ok I see many Harleys have that open clutch & I love the way it looks. Especially when you paint it up a little. Well can I have that on my KZ650? I know that my bike has a wet sump clutch so it needs the case to contain the oil so why doesn't the clutch on Harley need a cover or oil? Can my bike be modded to have a clutch with no oil? Let's say I have unlimited money - what has to be done to make it work?

Ummm... redesign the entire engine? Harley trannys are separate from the engine. KZ trannys are an integral part of the engine case (where all the oil is a-splashin' around) and are designed as wet clutches.

Maybe study Ducati engines, check out their dry clutch design (sound like a box of rocks, but I admit they're cool).

what the hell? I didn't know there were elseeds around. Elcid is a sort of nick name for me. I even have a tattoo of it on my shoulder...

As far as the clutch, it may be too difficult but I'd be interested to hear from someone how has done it succesfuly...

you can do a clear cover insert like someone else on this site.

Here's a picture of the cover from Germany (Klasmo Bikes). It's over $200 but looks cool. Someone here was making one and had a post about it a month or two ago. I'll post the link if I can find it.

Note that the price quoted on Klasmo´s site is for work and materials only - you´ll have to supply the cover yourself = add shipping costs to Germany and back. :pinch:

No reason why you couldn's fabricate your own engine case without the transmission. IMO a 2-speed CV transmsission would be more fun than a visible dry clutch.
