Z1-B Need exhaust help. was created by Kidkawie
Does anyone know what exhaust this is? It's been on my Fathers bike ever since I can remember but it got rusty now. To keep costs down I was going to blast and paint the header but I'd like to replace the muffler. The end of the header is 2" OD. I don't mind fabricating a bracket, I just want a smaller/cleaner muffler.

That, my dear sir, is a Hooker header. Pretty darn rare. Don't pitch it...save the muffler.

HA!

I remember having a "(heart)Hooker" sticker on my door as a kid. Now I know where it came from!

It's pretty rusty in between the pipes. I think I could get it to a 10'er, but any distance closer and you would see all that rust.

I'll give it a shot before I paint it. If it's THAT rare I'd consider replating it over the winter. I'm just not a fan of the big can.

Most plating shops won't replate an exhaust because all the carbon, etc. on the inside, contaminates all their baths. But it never hurts to ask. :)

X2

Browns has been doing show quality work for decades now. A friend back in 1978 started doing a Honda 750four for the shows and Browns plated every single item on that bike down to the rear brake spring. Beautiful gold leaf and airbrush work with enough chrome to blind you. Back then The Rat Hole bike show in Daytona was THE show to show in. He placed 2nd in his class. He rides the Harleys now but is most proud of the trophy and gives Browns the credit for the chrome and Chester the credit for the paint.

Where are some places to shop for slip on's that might work with this header? The end of the header is 2" OD.

If you end up painting the pipes and don't mind painting another piece about 4" long. I used to just buy a short adapter for car exhaust that went from that 2" down to 1 1/2 then just about any after market muffler can be added.
They have shelves of the things at Crappy Tire here in Canader eh. :P I suppose any muffler shop could hook you up though.. just need a 2" ID on one end and a 1.5" OD on the other. If you can get it re-chromed just toss in the nice clean new adapter with the chrome job.

I find it sacrilegious to have Harley parts on my Cows, but I've even added a sportster muffler to that before just to attend an event or two and annoy my Harley Headed friends. LOL sporty muffler never sounded so good in its life.

I was going to try this company Quality Tuning. I think they're in the UK. This is kind of what I'm looking for:
