undercutting helps pull the gears together tight. i myself never use the clutch shifting up on the street or at the dragstrip with my manually shifted bikes undercut or otherwise.

It comes down to a matter of physics.

Once your on the throttle, when back-cut dogs have landed, they're staying. Even with a steep angle back-cut, they wont further engage much, if at all once the powers on.

Likewise, your dogs have to be seriously worn to start slipping off eachother after a hard shift, but much easier for them to slip away from eachother, than slip towards.

Thats just how it is with the latteral potential in physics.

You never really have to use a clutch, back-cut or not, but you do have to remove more potential/throttle to shift. Which really, isn't an issue either...

But it does feel very different when you do.

PEACE.

Hi Mark, the undercutting stops the transmission from coming OUT of the current gear easily - that's the issue - you have to roll off the throttle a little more, and pull the clutch lever in a little more to release the dogs.

If you only ride one bike, it may not be as much of an issue, but switching between stock Z1's and the turbo'd KZ with the undercut trans was trying - you had to think about the shifting far more than my tired old brain could handle...

Hi Jeff. Hope business is good.
This is interesting. i never thought it would shift dif than a stocker.
i have never had any trouble shifting with the back cut.
i just assumed it would actually help pull them together on the way in, since it is tapered , u would think it should. Never thought u would have to accentuate more to release them? Its certainly easy enough for me with only 1 KZ.
dont all the sport bikes have back cuts now.
my 01 CBR6 shifts easy , not sure if its back cut.

most of the newer sport bikes use a 5 to 7 degree backcut.
