I have a feeling that I may have bent the valves in my 750. Any input on a good sources or type for replacements ?? OEM vs SS ?? Just a street motor so I have no special circumstance or requirements .

I will probably have a chance to pull the valve cover and check clearances in the next few days, just trying to get a source lined up early

Valves for the KZ750R1, intake and exhaust, are still available from Mother Kawasaki. Any reputable Kawasaki dealer can order them for you. However, I recommend you deal with www.Z1Enterprises.com as they are used to ordering from Kawasaki, have a several week turnaround, and will not overcharge you. Go with OEM.

I found new Vesrah valves for my 750 twin on ebay from a seller called rustyriders LLC. I think they were about $12 each which was a lot cheaper than Kawi.

If you have to order Kawi parts, Z1 enterprises, babbittsonline.com, and bike bandit will order them for a discount off list price.

Z1 was cheapest I found for OEM 750 valves, at $23 each.

That's not too bad.

Gotta scout Ebay for a bargain on some OEM gaskets too.

I hear Vesrah makes a decenty top end rebuild gasket set. I wasn't happy with the Athena kit I got. OEM is better, but pricey. I think if I had known I would have gone OEM for the head gasket and base gasket, and get a Vesrah set for the rest.

I just checked, they are 750 valves. I have 4 intake and one exhaust. If you want them faced I can do that for $5 each. They are in very good condition and straight.

Thanks otakar , that's a welcome offer.

I think that I bent them by overrevving the bike. Most likely the exhausts. I had the carbs off and when I re-installed them one of the screws from an intake boot snagged the throttle cam on the carbs at full throttle. I was able to get to the kill switch, but the damage was most likely done. Unfortunately I had just gotten the bike and was unfamiliar with it. I've been thru all the external stuff and cant get it to run smoothly on all 4 cyls. I've had the carbs cleaned ultrasonically, swapped all electrics for known good ones, new plugs and wires, 120+ psi compression on all 4 . All four run, but it wavers between them and never really runs well. Valcover comes off next. They may be tight, but I'm guessing very mildly bent(which I'm speculating will measure as loose?). It's a nice, clean bike and is much more comfortable than my 550's or 690 supermoto for two-up riding.

Well if I'm right and they are bent thats not great....but Im glad that I didn't crash !!

Some gaskets, valves, and a pair of underwear makes it a pretty cheap lesson !

I would think that if your compression test turns out OK your valves should be OK. You have a solid crank unlike the 1000 so it would not be a twisted crank. If you bent a valve you would have very low compression on that cylinder. If in dead you pull the head, I would replace the valve springs and the valve stem seals. Those are both cheep. According to the book, the compression should be 124-191Psi with no more than a 14Psi difference between them. If you are at the bottom of that range so consistently would say that you bent a valve in each cylinder. But to bend them so consistently is kind of strange.
