I took the liberty of posting your question on the new Z1OC site and Jeff Saunders answered it like this:

Hi Mike, tough question to answer... going back 2-3 years, Tomas and Ingo split up and sold the company to a new owner (David? from Poland?). During the next couple of years very poor comments were cropping up on various forums.

We used to send people to them for restoration paintwork, but then stopped doing that after so many negative comments appeared.

More recently I had heard they changed hands again and moved again.

I've not got a straight answer on this from anyone - including some people in Germany.

Wow, it sounds like a mess. Too bad - Thomas was very nice and helpful to me. I ordered a LOT of parts several years ago now and when I tried to contact him again some time later, I was told "Thomas is no longer here". Never knew what happened but just assumed he left, not that the company folded. I saw that Classix MC might be "the new Klasmo" but the web site is a shell only right now.

I just enjoyed browsing and daydreaming at the Klasmo site - mostly at work! Thanks for re-posting and let me know if you hear any more on it. Maybe Thomas will pop up again with his own business someday??

Here's a post from the UK Z1 Owners Club
www.z1ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13367

Given the number of orders we now get from Germany and surrounding countries, I know Klasmo has lost all that business. In the first 3-4 years of being in business, we hardly had any German orders as Klasmo was the prime supplier in Europe.

I've posted this before but:

I have pretty good luck searching Ebay for OEM/NOS stuff. I search "titles and descriptions" using the Kawasaki part number. 90% of the time I'll email the seller and ask for a little better price, say a gasket is $12.50 shipped I'll ask for $10 shipped and they usually go for it. One of my most recent scores was a clutch cover gasket for $6....shipped. I'm in the US but I still search Ebay UK, Aus and Canada for parts. I get stuff shipped from the UK as fast an as cheap as if it came from Cali.

If you have patience you should be able to find some deals. I do shop at retailers but only when I need ALOT of stuff in a hurry.

Anyone know if another company is widening KZ wheels as Klasmo did ?

I'm looking for a set of 7 spoke 18's widened, I just cant bring myself to use 3 spoke 17" wheels, they just dont do anything for me....makes it look too much like a ZRX :(

I've had them done at Klasmo and here at Kosman:

www.kosman.net/weldup.htm

Kosman leaves a visible weld on the outside but it doesn't look too bad. They also offer two types of rims depending on which look you like. Here's an example on a Z1-R:

Wicked, thank you very much.

I found Eric Vaughn Machine as well, does not show motorcycle wheels on his website, but he does race an Indian on the salt flats B)
