:( please help here. The other day my father thought it would be nice of him to take the kz750 and get an oil change on it. Wow what a great idea...:S or not. so the genius that changed the oil somehow or another stripped out the drain plug just a wee bit. It doesnt leak when the motor is off, or the bike is cold. But it does leak a small amount when sitting in the sun, or running. I have tried tightening the bolt but it gets in so far and starts to spin. Can i just put some teflon tape on there to make the threads grip better? any ideas are appreciated. I dont want to have to put new oil in the bike every 2 days or anything like that. so if you have an idea to seal it back up please let me know.

Have the genius who stipped the threads repair or pay for the repair with a thread insert or else replace the oil pan.Tape will only last a short time do to heat cycling and vibration.

Realistic answer: Replace the oil pan (get a used one from a member of this site or eBay) and start doing your own oil changes. It's really quicker and easier to do yourself than taking it to some idiot who will screw up your bike. Oh, and buy a torque wrench with the money you save so you don't strip anything. Ed

Could check with your local auto parts supplier for a self-tapping oversize oil plug.

Good Luck! :)

I agree with 650 ed, heck I have a kz650 oil pan under my work bench now that you can have.

It is not worth fixing the original part when the replacement will cost you probably $30 shipped (from ebay) and a cheap gasket.

If Kawsakiman does not hook you up send me a PM... I need more room under my work bench as is! Shipping will probably be under a ten-er!

bought it because I was told it would never run again...I like to prove people wrong.

you go to autozone and pick up a Heli coil and drill the same size as your bolt. buy a drill bit the same size as the heli coil and presto a threaded hole the seals

I'm with 650. for 2 reasons. a replacement pan will be roughly the same as repair, and time equal...plus, if you look at your' pan (once removed) the drainplug boss in pan is relieved to allow (more or less) total drain of area. Helicoils are a great 1 time repair, timeserts better, but can be travelers. replace w/fresh... a iffy drain plug not only drips, but concider the the remote possibility of it's exodus. roughly 3 quarts of engine oil dumped in the path of rear wheel at speed or in a corner would be bad.. g
