looks like cast iron to me anyway! :laugh:

I just went out and checked, the ones on my 650 are alluminum, and the ones for my z1 are cast iron
74 Z1a 900 (Apart and making it better than ever)
77 Kz 650b (Threw a rod, going to sandwich in a 900 or 1000 motor)

Yes the 1000 flanges are cast steel, and yes they snap easily if the shims aren't seated right, or if you tighten one side more than the other.
