Engine off frame? was created by solar_eclipse2
So I have my '82 1100 Spectre in pieces at the moment. I've been trying to troubleshoot the electrical/flat out replace the wiring but I've been thinking I wanted to clean up the frame as it has it's own issues.

How much of a pain is it going to be to take the motor and drive shaft off? Is it impossible to do by myself or with two people? What do I need to worry about?

how big are you these motors are quite heavy i've been told that they are close to 240 lbs i take them out myself all the time but i have been doing this for along time i have seen some people that lay the bike on it's side and lift the frame off the engine but i haven't done that my self. the old fashioned way is tough to do with two people because it never fails some one will get there fingers crushed or pinched. if you are doing any engine work at the same time it will make it easier if you remove the head and block. if not then you have a bit of a fight on your hands

I'm 5'10 and about 230. I'm not a hulk though. I didn't plan to do any motor work on it. I am still working under the impression that the motor is just fine. If it's not...well that's neither here nor there right now.

Yeah I've never done it but I rear it's fairly easy to lift the frame off the engine.

myself i'm 5'9 and around 215 round being the operative word unless you have any back problems you should be able to do it but with some grunting i get the bike on the center stand or strapped down someway and straddle the bike and grab the engine where you can get a hold best and just lift it up and start moving it to the right it may take a few attempts just take your time it will come out. make sure your cables and all wires are disconnected and out of the way and sometimes it can be easier if you remove the rear brake pedal or at least get it out of the way.

I did some searching and saw a post where someone else did it. They just unbolted 4 bolts for the final drive and removed a pin at the front of the drive shaft and with the bike on it's side they pulled the frame off.

That might be the way to do it.

Oh man. That's impressive. My hat is off to you sir! You don't happen to have any pics of the process do you? I'm all about visuals. I intended to leave it on the floor after I got it out, unless that's a problem.

you bunch of sissies.... I lifted that heavy ass motor from the floor onto the work table...

I stood there proud, 5-10, 170 pounds...

Then I realized my balls where still on the floor....

I actually did all this by myself with the frame resting on the ground, front forks and rear swingarm off... Slowly lifted out to the right with head/cylinder off.. From there lifted up onto work table.

Yeah it was heavy but one person can do it safely...
