Put some of the silver Anti-Seize on the first few threads of the new bolt(I use the same stuff on sparkplug threads).

Replace it with one of our kits and never have the problem again. Both the oil filter bolt and the drain plug use an allen wrench.

Scary stuff I'm reading here. You're going to own a motorcycle and not invest in a few simple tools to keep everything reliable? Going on twenty five years on the same filter bolt now. No issues with any other oil bolt from past Hondas, Yammy's or whatever. Sure, I could understand frozen bolts from rust, weather, etc.
I feel for anyone who has to inherit something from a lame PO or lousy dealer tech who doesn't give a crap. 'Might as well take your bike to Jiffy Lube if you want an over torqued, stripped bolt. I'd like to think of treating that bike more like an F16 than a Yugo. I don't know, does an F16 mechanic even have a "Grip Tight" or pipe wrench in his toolbox?

Just make sure that you're actually trying to loosen the bolt, and not tightening it.

It HAS happened.

If I had a 5-spot for every honda/yamaha oil filter bolt I've had to bust loose via/grinding & driving a 11mm 6 point socket onto, I could probly treat the membership to dinner. Fortunatly, Sears never blinks when replacing split sockets. G
