The intake side of my 82 was ported from the factory but not polished. I put the RC 4-1 header on back on 83 so I dont recall what the exhaust ports looked like

something must be wrong. All kz650,kz750,and gpz750 4 bangers should swap into any one of those frames.

If you must change an engine sell the ported motor to me!

it wont fit i'm telling ya, The front mounts are narrower and the same with the lower rear mount. I thought the same thing Hell I have both of them sitting in my garage and I thought they were the same till I tried to put the 82 in my 85 frame. After I cooled off some I took a look at the 82 I can make it fit I will have to cut the lower rear mount of the motor narrower. I will post pics in my 750 cafe build thread. Then the front I can use the 85 left hand rubber mount but use a flat plate for the left mount. like I said i will post pics in my build.

The ZR 750 aircooled, ZR7 and the zephyr 750 have all got norrower cases. I know this cos I fitted a gpz 750 81 engine into my zephyr 750 and had to cut the rear mounts off and re-weld them further out, no big deal. Also had to make up different front mounts. norrower at the front and rear (zephyr etc)

You just replied to a 6 YEAR OLD thread. :silly:

Regarding the cases, Kawasaki evolved from a solid mounted engine scheme to rubber mounting, thus the evolution of the engine cases.

Doesn't matter how old it is, It's still relevant especially as these bikes are getting older and folk are looking to see what other engines will fit what.

Tks for bumping this tread, as me and my buddy yesterday was debating if the engine from my 83 would fit my 82.
Now we have all the answers.

No probs bud. Here's a rundown of my Zeph 750. Gpz 750 81 engine, Had to cut the front sprocket outer engine cover a little to clear the frame the pickups were a straight swap as were the carbs and boots. I used a ZX9R E1 rear wheel . with a 180 tyre fitted and a 525 chain conversion with a 17 tooth sprocket at the front and a 39 at the rear. fitted a zeph 1100 swinger straight in and 1100 shocks , It's about 1 1/2 longer than the 750.. Didn't have to get offset sprockets either as it all lined up OK. At the front I fitted ZX9R RWU forks/ yokes and a KR1 wheel so I could keep the original speedo mechanical drive. both wheels match, ie 3 spoke mags. I've just bought a ZR7 bottom end as it has the primary chain tensioner unlike all the other 750 -4s. I intend to fit a 750 UT head and cams and take it out to 810 when I can afford it. Might also fit a 6 speed box from any of the 550 4s. and lastly I fitted ZR7 standard headers and made my own silencer from a short piece of stainless steel from ebay which I fitted with an old baffle and welded a bracket on. As far as I could see all engine internals are identical except there is a different end cap/bearing on the shaft that the clutch pushrod goes through, it's blanked off on the Zeph as it's a different setup. Has to be sprayed yet and the tank is wrong in this pic, 550 fitted for now.
