Note gentle curves in header pipe bends, especially first bends from exhaust ports.

Seems designed so that sharpness of turns is purposefully minimized.

Am thinking this would be to enhance smoother flow of exhaust gases.

From the pictures posted, with some having a sharper turn, maybe different header curvatures were used on different model bikes. Perhaps more limited clearance space between the header and front fender required a sharper first bend on other models.

Am thinking this was the Yoshimura exhaust system used on the 1973 Z1 when setting the 160 mph world speed record in Daytona Beach. The bike also had a fairing and was qualified as being a stock motorcycle.

When viewing one of the available videos, only the muffler portion shows exiting the fairing, but it clearly appears to be the Yoshimura. Other videos or articles likely have more detailed information about this.

Am thinking the other 2 Z1's were completely stock for setting the 24 hour record.

Several fine videos of the Daytona Z1 record setting event are available on the web. :)

Excerpts from Magazine

"Three new Zs broke all sorts of records at Daytona in March of 1973. A Yoshimura-prepped Z ridden by Yvon DuHamel lapped the speedway at 160.199 mph. Two less-modified Z's set new 24-hour records as well, one covering 2631 miles for a 109.64-mph average. Cliff Carr is on the left bike, Bryon Farnsworth on the other, with Gary Nixon to his immediate left.

No wonder they still dragrace these engines. Nobody was much worried about light and compact when Kawasaki built its first big four-stroke."

I'd say no it's not a Yoshimura pipe. The head pipes are too long, Yoshimura pipes are top end power pipes with shorter head pipes. The pipe in Patton's pic has a hand bent Yoshimura pipe with the real shallow bends. The production pipes have a little tighter bends but still short head pipes.

Show us a picture looking in the outlet. Me is thinking Bassani. Not Yoshi. That's just my guess. Remember there are Race Sytems and Street Systems.

that pipe had an aluminum canister like the one in flhwesty's post ...i 95%on this one but....i spent some time painting and sanding my supertrapp recentlly(see my profile pic header)...and the way your pipe sweeps over and the way the four head pipes are swept into the single collecter and it's reduction shape is really really really close to the supertraps forms...the exhuast collers are not on mine... kz900.. years ago i had a gpz 1100..it had a supertrapp..so they had em around some.peacedardoonk wrote:

Damn that pipe is purdy.... B)

Seriously speaking... Someone send one of these pipes to Plummen so he can get some measurements... He and I spoke of this where he would need one to copy from.

As hard as these pipes are to come buy, I would think it could be re-produced with the right tools... Yes/No?

How the hell did you find/come across this pipe...?
