Welcome to the forum there is allot of great info available in the archives as well as some Great KZ Guys, that don't mind giving you a "hand" with the tech stuff.

Pics, Man, Pics!!!!

spark plug gap .028-.031 in.

It would be a good time to double check the timing chain adjustment at this time if you haven't done it already.(see below)
Also get a manual ASAP.

Cam chain adjustment(1973-1978)...
1.Make sure ignition is off.
2.Remove the timing(points)cover:
3.Turn crankshaft to the right (clockwise) a couple of full turns. Use the 17mm bolt on the end of the crankshaft. This takes up the slack in the front run of the cam chain.
4.Sight the hole in the contact point plate, and continue turning the crankshaft to the right until the T mark for a pair of cylinders(1 and 4 or 2 and 3)aligns with the pointer.
5.Loosen the chain tensioner locknut and back out the tensioner bolt several turns. This allows a spring inside the tensioner to take up the cam chain slack.
6. Torque the tensioner bolt to 40in.-lb(.5mkg).
7.Tighten the locknut.
8.Install the timing cover and gasket.
