I would like to build a drag engine. Iv got an 82kz1000 would i do better to find an older non j engine or is what iv got cool?

If I were to do it all over again, I would go with late modal motors. J type.
I think parts are a little easier to come by.
They make a little more HP and the heads flow better.

I think if I were going with a normally aspirated motor I would go with the "J" motor without a doubt because of the heads (which of course is an easy fix on the older motors). For blown motors (turbo, supercharger) I might be tempted to go with the older KZ motors because there are more parts (used and new race parts) available and they are hopefully cheaper ?? More history and knowledge floating around also.

Just a thought.

If you'd like to use your KZ engine and bore it out and add a j head, I've got one that I'm selling... just had a valve job done at APE, had them drill the holes for the cam tower too. Everything you need is included except the cam tower that you get from APE for 150... let me know if you're interested. At this point I'm negotiable on the price, since no matter what I'm gonna be taking a loss. :laugh:

Beyond this you would just need oversized pistons and a bored out cylinder... I've found the piston kits for 430 and the cylinder work for 100.

According to his sig, he has a 82 KZ1000, so he already has a J head on his motor, since it's a J motor :)
