Switching to electronic ignition would probably be a good idea. I will look into it and if I can afford it I will make the upgrade. BTW the intake is the stock setup.

I've read some posts lately claiming that the smog systems on these bikes can cause driveability and lean/backfiring conditions.
if you havent already you may want to remove that system completely, or posibly clean and check its conditon.

I took the carbs off once again and adjusted the needle to the richest setting. I figured I would remove the EGR system as well, and now the bike seems to do ok, but is still far from perfect. It doesn't pop and hesitate after 5k rpms now, but you can feel it lose power as the rpms rise. I'm positive that once I reject (who knows how many times), I should have a smooth running bike.

Not to beat a dead horse, but any carb work done before first assuring that ignition and compression aspects are up to specs (together with an ample supply of good clean fuel), may be in vain. Because even a perfect carb can't compensate for deficiencies in other areas.
Good Luck!

I checked the voltage to the coils yesterday and they are getting 11.8V. The bike ran pretty good today, as it was warmer today than it was last night. As for the main jet, I think it is #110, or whatever came stock. I know I need to rejet, just have to try and figure out what jets and what sizes I need.
