horsepower question was created by kboom36
I bought a 1983 Canadian J model KZ1000 and it has an advertised horse pwer of 102. My 1981 LTD kz1000 has an advertised horse power of 92. Why is there a difference they both have the same bore and stroke ?

The most likely differences are: Valve sizes, cam timing and carburettor size. Of course it could just be marketing flim flam too. As these numbers are measured at the crank or counter shaft and not the rear wheel.

I think it was recently covered here somewhere but the LTD and CSR cams are slightly milder than the J cams. Most likely for more bottom end torque since they are considered "cruisers". The J gets some moderate cams since its considered a sporting maching.

I know the canadian buikes for my 1979 KZ750 used bigger carburetor jets.

I doubt it would give +10, but US bikes were so smogged out back then it's possible.

you are refering to the uk "HP". they use a different standard (no im not talking std vs sae) they use PS. 1 PS = 75 kp·m/s = 0.73549875 kW = 0.9863201652997627 HP (SAE)
