Certainly on mine, when I did it, the cases had to be ground out where the rear of the sleeves slide down inside the cases.

About 3/16" around about 1/3 of the rear part of the case openings.

I did this with the cases in the frame. Smothered some paper towel in oil, to catch the grindings, and stuffed them down the openings. Pulled them out carefully, with grindings stuck to them, when finished.

Hope that helps

I have heard folks say they have fitted 1015cc blocks in 903cc cases without grinding so I think it will be possible in some cases; just that I have had to grind in every case I did this. The spot where you grind is kind of obvious when you "trial fit" the block... I generally pull the engine out of the bike when I do a rebuild (which is when I would be swapping cylinders and heads) but there is no reason that you couldn't grind with the cases still in the bike. The main problem is grit. I use a die grinder and it is a fairly messy business. You just grind a bit where the sleeves fit in the cases... you will feel where the sleeves hit. You could blow the engine out good, I guess with the oil pan off. There would still be quite a bit of crud to get in the crank bearings and transmission unless you stuff rags in the cases or figure out some way to deal with the grit. It isn't rocket science and doesn't require any precision...

you can actually see that there is an area between the two rear studs for each cylinder that "jut's" in to the case opening....
Is this that area that is ground?

I figured it out!
I'm just gonna trash this engine and fit one of these in there...600, 800hp, whatever it takes...
