just do what i used to do,tell em its just an old 900.its stock, honest! :P
1197cc?  :P

my 650 dropped 1000 rpm with a shift, im guessing the 900 is the same. shift 500rpm past peak hp so its only 500 rpm below peak hp in the next gear.

Thanks for all your advice guys. Just put some new tires on and did the soldering mod. I'm driving up to Gingerman Raceway in MI to watch the AHRMA races tomorrow and may have to apply some of my new knowledge!
Maybe I'll see some of my fellow KZ midwesterners there.

Hey if it was a fine tuned 750F twin-cam bike they run pretty strong. As far as shifting for the best et like Lorcan said go just past peek power so after the shift your coming on to the power. I short shift 1 / 2 shift to use a little more torque to get moving then let horsepower take over.

ltdrider had a good point... you more than likely got out sprocketed. Not to take anything away from those ol' CB750s. They will defiantly run a hole in the wind.

Back in the day when I cared about hole shots and such I ran the police sprocket. Which were 15/41s if I remember correctly.

If you can get a bead on the RPM that wants to take the front tire off the ground in the lower gears. That should be the RPM that pulls the best in the higher gears.

I have ridden both the 900 and the 1000. There IS a distinct difference. The 900 wraps up quicker. It's kind of like comparing a 283 Chevy small block to a 350 or 400.

Well said. Mrbreeze. Sprockets definitely play into the equation.

I've had my 810 spinning wayyyyy past 10K and I walked away from a well tuned '83 Kz 750. He had stock gearing and I had dropped a couple of teeth on the front. Wasn't even close as long as I was up near peak power, but I am sure he would pull a higher top end than me.

Lorcan's point is quite interesting also. Now I have an excuse if I blow a shift:)

BTW Mrbreeze.... your name made me smile as I am a big Skynyrd fan.
