haha.. rubber hose - check.

I did use some WD40 around the manifolds, and it did change the idle. I tightened up on the hose clamps a bit, and haven't tried it yet.. I should have repeated the test. They were fairly loose. If it still does it, I'll be replacing the rubbers.

Don't think the oil gate is in the running right now - haven't got the need for speed too often, and that's the only time the oil light has ever gone on. If it happens more often, then yeah, I might look into it - but for now, it's not necessary I don't think.

One new thing I noticed this morning is that if I hold 'er in first, with the brake on and slow the engine using the compression/braking, I can get it to idle much lower than if I just come to a stop. If I hold it around 1000 for 5-10 seconds, it'll idle around 1500 instead of 2500-3000. Not sure what the deal is there.

you said you are running castrol, that stuff turns black fast, it must be some of the additives they use, valvoline racing oil does the same thing, I used to run both of them in my race cars and after one night of racing they were always black

It's idling at 2500-3000? Wow! I thought my idle on my 550 was high at 1500. That makes me think your linkage is binding somewhere, or your cable(s) are sticking.

Nope..no binding - everything snaps back as it should, and there's actually visible slack in the cable. It must be a vacuum or air leak somewhere. That's why I swapping out the exhaust gaskets, and if that doesn't do it, then I'll probably change the carb manifolds.

Luckily it doesn't do anything other than make my bike run faster when I'm at a light..the actual riding (which is obviously a far majority of the time) is unaffected - as far as I know!
