Can anyone recognise and tell me what brand of piston this is? It comes out of my Z1E block and measuring the bore reads 69.5mm or 1000cc.
On the underside of the piston is stamped
R.C
KP7000

Its a standard size judging by the STD on the crown.

...and yes, it does have some issues.... :(

Cast pistons for sure.
You can replace them with a Wiseco 1015 and have a good as new fresh set up.

Thanks guys I appreciate the help. Its not running Nitros and I suspect that the damage happened during assembly but I cannot be sure. Whoever or whatever did this really buggered things. Possibly detonation but ???

APE Jay might be able to answer this question:

Can you buy a complete gasket kit for the engine? Everything from the sump to the rocker cover? What about bearing kits for the crank and cam?

As soon as I get off this dial-up I am going to surf APE's website but I appreciate the responses regardless.

Suggest those are old, aftermarket cast pistons. You can buy gasket kits from www.z1enterprises.com and I would replace those pistons while they are out of the engine. The rings won't be easy to find since those things are no longer being made. If I were considering a piston kit from APE, I would look at one of their street performance kits... while pricey, they do include matching cams and some kits have the lifters, I believe. The cams will wake up the slightly higher compression pistons and performance is enhanced compared to just popping in some 1015cc pistons. Carefully check your cylinder bores... a Kaw Factory shop manual gives the procedure and it requires nine diameter measurements at specific points in the cylinder bore to determine roundness and wear. If the bores are within service spec, then go for the new 69mm pistons but consider the performance kit.

The easiest way to measure the ID on cylinder bores is to use a "bore gauge"... this is essentially a tee where the arms of the tee are spring loaded. They pop out to the diameter of the bore and then have a lock. You pull the gauge out and transfer the diameter measurement to a set of calipers. I bought an inexpensive set from eBay... they give you about 5 or 6 gauges that are capable of different diameters. The "tee arms" on the gauges only move less than 1/4" so a range of gauges are needed for different applications.
