Keep riding. If it's fun and running well, I would not worry about it.
PS. If your comprssion tester uses a Schrader valve, make sure it's not leaking. They get fouled easily.

I will keep riding until winter. Then I think I'll take a peek inside. I just can't let a known problem go unchecked forever.

your method of breakin sounds good to me. If it runs well, has plenty of power, doesn't smoke who cares what the gauges say???
I just rebuilt my J and adopted the break in yu used. She' fine and I havent even bothered to check the PSI. Dont worry ride happy!
