I have had many injuries in my life. Broken ribs are the worst. Climbing in to bed is like getting in an iron maiden. For OTC pain meds Aleve (Naproxen Sodium) works best for broken bones. For the short term, get something stronger from your doctor. Just don't get hooked.

I think you should sue, but believe me that won't be fun either. I was in a crash where I broke my clavicle, separated my shoulder, broke 5 ribs, and punctured my lung. Five surgeries to put my should back together including cadaver tendon. When the crash was reported in the paper the article said I was wearing a helmet and only had minor injuries. My fist stay in the hospital was 15 days. I sued, was counter-sued, and five years later I walked away with $75k and the other party got $20k. You read that right. Her fault and she got $20k. My lawyer got $75k and her laywer got $60k. Well I would have gotten $5k without the layer so he earned his money. What you are going to find out is the entire effort is so layers can make money. The worst part of it will be that you can't move on. Layers, depositions, mitigation, and court will keep bringing you back to that day. Back to all that pain. I'll tell you what, I earned that $75k. I don't know if I would do it again. Write your side of the story down. Memorize it. If it's not in your script, you don't remember. Then just try to turn it over to your layer and otherwise forget about it. When they call just take out your script and work on your lines. No matter how nice your lawyer is to you, you are just a paycheck.

Good luck.

I have to say I agree with the ribs being the most bothersome. ,, After being upright most of the day I have to lay down and that's when I know Im still really hurt. The pain shoots thru my ribs and I cant catch my breathe .
Doctors have given me every kind of pain med where Im sure I would be the hit of any teenagers party, Oxys, Norco, Vicodin, Flexirile, And other stuff. And I DONT take all that shit at one time.
As far as starting a law suit, I have been advised to wait and see by 2 different law firms. Michigan no fault laws have high thresholds to win in a suit. Lucky for me so far I hope not to meet those thresholds as they include scaring , loss of body limbs or function, permanent disabilities. AS much as I would love to throw this women down a sewer I don't hope to lose any permanent ability to function. But only time will tell if I fully recover, So will wait and see.
The girls insurance company will be held responsible for bike repairs, all medical and rehab expenses and my loss of income and travel expenses so that will have to due for now

Remember to take it easy and rest. Those meds can make you feel invincible. If you don't rest you won't heal. Find a comfortable recliner and sleep in that as much as you can. Less pressure on your ribs in a recliner.

Yeah, my shoulder was very messed up. It works fine now but there is always pain. It is so constant I hardly even notice. :) Its amazing what you get used to.

If the docs didn't need to cut you open or stitch you up you won't get much from the lawsuit so it likely won't be worth the trouble. That is particularly true if you are getting your bike fixed and your medical bills paid. Most insurance policies include no fault liability coverage. So they can give you that without admitting any fault or accepting your claims. You should be able to get that with little trouble. It may however be a small amount of money. That was the $5k i mentioned in my previous post.

I do suggest you take the time to write down what happened. Just a concise truthful recollection of events. If lawsuits happen they can take years. They will keep asking you the same questions hoping you deviate so they can cast doubt on your story. To make you look partially culpable. The whole process sucks.
Nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

I'm glad you are still with us.

Don't force your recovery, it will come.

BTW, that girl left because she was scared. You don't look like someone I'd want to be involved in with a road side rumble.

I have not rode since I went down last year. The few hours before I went to the ER were the worst of my life.

I would take this one to court and have the cops who were involved brought in to testify. If the cops say they didn't ticket her because she is too mentally deficient to be held accountable for causing accidents while driving I would argue that she is too mentally deficient to drive - period and should have her license revoked. The next time she runs over someone (biker, pedestrian, etc.) she may kill them. Ed

I concur! Not to jack this thread but I just came back from doc and they did finally find that I cracked three ribs pretty good and now need to get an appointment to see a bone specialist for my shoulder. Sucks to go down. Glad to hear that you are recuperating well. I have been taking it really easy and am trying to heal up quick so that I can ride again soon.
